Over the course of two years and two months, Henry David Thoreau lived in a cabin he had “built himself” on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts, where he lived a simple life, and earned his living by the labor of his “hands only. With his experiment in simple living, Thoreau expresses his personal declaration of independence by means of self-reliance and scientific observation.

First Edition Classics presents: Herman Melville's epic adventure story about the voyage of the whale-ship Pequod, as told by sailor Ishmael. It is considered one of the greatest epics in all of literature, and includes details about whaling, the whalemen of the era, and the plight of the ship's Captain, Ahab, who seeks revenge against Moby Dick, the ferocious white whale he is obsessed with. The novel's complexity creates an infinite number of interpretations and purposeful ambiguity. It was first published in London in October 1851, as The Whale, one month before the single-volume edition of Moby-Dick; or, The Whale was published in New York.

Most scholars agree, the American version more fully represents Melville's vision of the novel, and this book has been formatted from the 1851 American edition.
